Nestled between Guatemala's tallest volcanoes, Tajumulco and Tacana, the coffee trees at Finca Nueva Granada sit high on mountainous slopes in soil made rich by volcanic ash. Seasonal workers strap wicker baskets to their waists each morning, preparing to pass through the farm's full groves to fill their baskets with deep red coffee cherries. After picking, employees use the farm's spring water source to pulp the cherries, washing and grading the coffees before they are dried on patios.
Laurina is a unique coffee varietal originally found on Reunion Island in Madagascar. Beans from this 5-bag microlot appear elongated and unusually small in size because Laurina is a dwarf bourbon varietal. Low in caffeine content and complex in flavor, Laurina is a rare offering which we were able to secure through the long-standing relationship that our importer has with the Nottebohm family of Finca Nueva Granada.
