Yader and Karen's El Cipres farm is located in one of the best coffee cultivating regions of Jinotega in a very unique microclimate. The coffee here grows at such a high altitude, that it's harvested an entire two months after the rest of the country's crop due to the colder climate. These temperatures allow for a more deliberate maturation of the coffee cherry, which results in a more complex and sweeter cup. Yader used funds from this past harvest to buy a truck, but after becoming a truck owner he decided to sell it to invest in more horses to help them carry their coffee off their very steep and hard-to-reach mountainside. Yader and Karen live with their kids, Jesús and Elvin, and are paid more than Fair Trade organizations pay, receive loans, free transport, quality premiums, and other benefits through working with our importer, Gold Mountain Coffee Growers.
